Why Fight A Speeding Ticket?

June 24th, 2009 . by admin

Most people’s first reaction when they get a speeding ticket is to just pay the fine and forget about it. Sure, they consider the extra time and trouble it might take to fight the ticket, but relatively few actually take the next step to fight a speeding ticket unless they truly believe they are innocent. But maybe they should. Here’s my reason why. The last time I got a speeding ticket the fine was $300. I did what most people do, and just paid it. But what I didn’t expect next (but probably should have) was the hike in my auto insurance about two months later. Now, I started to get upset. The fine drained my paycheck for that month - and I admit - I was speeding, and now I was going to have to pay $25 more each month for my auto insurance. Add this up over a year and with the fine combined and it came out to be $600 before I took the next step, which was to switch insurance companies. The new auto insurance company gave me a lower monthly payment, but I had to pay an upfront premium. After going through all this trouble I started to think about what would have happened if I tried to fight my speeding ticket. Yes, it would have taken time, but with online resources like ticketvoid.com, a traffic lawyer would find me and many of them offer free consultations, so it would have definitely been worth a shot.
