Buckle Eye Surgery in India
January 31st, 2009 . by adminI used to see flashes of light, and I thought I had some kind of divine gift, until my ophthalmologist drove sense into me and advised me to go in for a detailed evaluation. Further tests revealed retinal detachment, and I was advised to go in for a buckle eye surgery. However, I was not sufficiently insured, and the estimate I received in the United States was mind-boggling. I had heard about medical tourism, but I was skeptical. Then the flashes of light increased, and I grew nervous that I might become totally blind. That was when I decided that I really had nothing to lose. If I sat on it, I would lose my vision anyway. So I decided that I might as well go blind after I gave it my best shot. And so, I packed my bags and headed to India, where the surgery was cheapest. I checked into the Shroff Eye Hospital for a Scleral buckle surgery in India’s glam city Mumbai, where Dr. Shroff himself performed surgery on me. A couple of days later, I had a sharp pain in my eye, and I panicked. Dr. Shroff patiently explained to me that it was normal and that it happened to a lot of patients post-operatively. I hung in there, and a month later, I returned to the States, much brighter, both in vision and in my attitude.
